What are we doing today?
1. We are analyzing and interviewing characters from Romeo and Juliet
2. We are utilizing persuasive appeals such as logos, pathos and ethos
3. We are responding to text-specific interpretive questions and supporting our responses with textual evidence and logical reasoning
4. We are determining bias in texts and oral presentations

Roles

Interviewer #1will facilitate discussion between the guest/s and members of the audience without bias
Interviewer # 2 will also facilitate discussion between the guest/s and members of the audience without bias
Guest/s will take a position and defend his or her position with textual evidence and logical, ethical or emotional reasoning
Members of the audience will ask guests/s questions that will require the guest/s to take a position and defend his or her position with textual evidence and logical, ethical or emotional reasoning
Members of the audience will also agree or disagree with the guest/s and support their agreement or disagreement utilizing persuasive appeals

Groups
Group # 1 Romeo and Juliet (5 or 6 members)
Group # 2 Night (5 or 6 members)
Group # Life Is Beautiful (5 or 6 members)


Possible additional groups
Background information group on the Holocaust and Shakespeare.

Notes:
Students may have their questions podcasted or videotaped
Students may also re-enact scenes crucial to their questions

1. The presenters speak loud and clear.
2. The presenters’ response has to make sense.
3. The presenters stay on topic.
4. The presenters support their responses with textual evidence and personal experiences.
5. The presenters make eye contact with the participants.
6. The presenters respond correctly.
7. The presenters give examples of what they’re talking about.
8. The presenters respect to the participants.
9. The presenters help each other out.

Organization Students present information in logical sequence that audience can follow. Students present information in logical sequence that audience can follow. There are only minor organizational problems. Audience has difficulty following presentation because presentation jumps around. Audience cannot understand presentation because there is no sequence of information.

Knowledge
Students demonstrate full knowledge of their topic and show depth of thought in their presentation Students demonstrate adequate knowledge of their topic. Project is comprehensive but lacks depth of thought. Students demonstrate some knowledge of their topic. Information is sketchy. Students do not have grasp of information. Project is not focused or organized.
Public Speaking Students use a clear voice and correct, precise pronunciation of terms so that all audience members can hear presentation. Students’ voices are clear. Students pronounce most words correctly. Most audience members can hear presentation. Students’ voices are low. Students incorrectly pronounces terms. Audience members have difficulty hearing presentation. Students mumble, incorrectly pronounce terms and speak too quietly for entire audience to hear.
