Welcome to Ms. Ferguson's class
December 18, 2007 (Tuesday)

What are we doing during this lesson? We are:
1. Applying our study of "Harlem" by Langston Hughes to contemporary societies in order to choose a new name for the poem. We have discussed the poem and major themes. We will now apply the themes to a place in today's world that might "explode" because of poverty, oppression, etc.
2. Brainstorming in groups the place we feel deserves to be an appropriate title for the poem.
3. Researching our choice in order to prove it conforms to the themes of the poem and why.
4. Using a panel discussion in order to present our findings to the class
5. Writing an essay which supports our choice using concrete evidence from both the text of the poem as well as our research.
